OKR in E-Commerce

Experiences with OKR in E-Commerce by Michael Sommerhalder and Michael Rudin from Digitec Galaxus - “It has been shown that relative metrics for the Key Results and focusing on Outcome over Output are very important.”

Four points were in focus:

  1. Putting the team at the center
  2. Increasing autonomy
  3. Enhancing transparency
  4. Improving alignment

Typical challenges at Digitec Galaxus included the highly operational environment and the personal development within the teams. In the latter case, team leaders are required to provide the necessary support.

There was a lot of positive feedback within the teams, and strategic thinking was encouraged. In retrospectives, smaller goals could already be addressed by the agile teams beforehand, but the big picture is now much easier to tackle with OKRs.

As a conclusion, it can be stated that transparency has noticeably increased, which in turn has boosted employee engagement. A continuing challenge remains the connection with day-to-day business. Individual feedback has proven to be very important and central in this regard.
